Steps to Strategy Creation
A. IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM:
- Indicate the general problem area.
- Specify the problem area further – to pinpoint the objective.
(Break it down to the smallest parts.)
- Identify the strategy that the learner is currently using. (Ask “How
do you do that now?”)
- Record the difficulty with the current strategy.
B. UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM:
- Compare this difficulty to what you know about the learner’s
strengths and weaknesses.
C. FINDING A SOLUTION:
- Select or create an alternative way to accomplish this step.
- Introduce the strategy.
- The learner tries to apply the strategy independently.
- The learner evaluates the effectiveness of the strategy.
- If appropriate, further modify the strategy.
