Activity 2a: Things you may need to know to do your
income tax
When we
talked to people about doing their taxes, we found that there were a number of
questions about the forms that kept coming up again and again. In the section
that follows, we look at these questions and give the answers. We hope that
this will help you to understand what you need to do when you fill in a tax
form.
What is the
T1 form? The T1 (General) - to give it its full title - is the form you
have to fill in and send to CCRA to tell them how much you earned, how much tax
you think you should pay, whether you should get money back or whether you owe
money on your income tax. It is also the form you have to send in if you want
to receive the GST credit or the Canadian Child Tax Benefit (CCTB).
Where can I get
a T1 form?
If you paid income tax in other years, CCRA probably sent you forms
for this year. However, if you have moved, the forms may not get to
you, or if this is your first time of sending in a tax return, you won't
have the forms. If you don't have the forms, you can get them from any
post office. You can also get them from CCRA offices in your area. |
