Level 110 Reading - Organizational Disability
Learner Profile Leesie is 25 years old. She is very attractive, bright and always smiling and joking. She works at the Northern Store. Her supervisor says the customers love her but she is not reliable or consistent in the way she performs her duties. Leesie wants to improve her skills and get a better paying job as a receptionist.
Short Term Goal To read at the 110 level to pursue her employment goal.
Demonstration Leesie was asked to explain in detail what she did to ring in the sale of a bag of chips and a litre of milk.
Skill and Level Retells a simple story or account of an event in proper sequence and recalls information in it accurately.
Effect of the Learning Disability Leesie seemed a free spirit because she had great difficulty organizing information. She floated through school and life by avoiding situations that required precision. In retelling what she did to ring in the sale of a bag of chips and a litre of milk she would ‘forget’ to talk about how she would ring in the tax differently even though she did it on a consistent basis.
Accommodation Leesie must list the things she does or needs to do on paper. She placed a list on the cash register at work. She found by writing a task out in order, she was able to do things more reliably.
Learner’s Words “It really helps to make a list and refer to it when I need to tell someone something important. I don’t want people to think I’m careless. I do understand how to do things. I just seem to always take the easy way out. Now I have a way to change it.”
