" The food we eat must be broken down into
very small particles so it can be absorbed by the cells of the body.
Food is broken down through physical processes such as chewing. Chemical
processes also break down food. Chemical processes require water and
special proteins. Without these special enzymes,
digestion would take place very slowly."
