My mother was a storyteller. She made stories come alive in our imagination. I inherited that talent from my mother.
One of my best friends was Fred. Fred and I hung out together sometimes at my place and sometimes at his place. One of the things we liked to do was to go to the movies.
I remember going to my mother’s best friend’s cottage every summer until I was 30 years old. It had no electricity, one phone and a lot of books to read. There were two cottages on the lake and the rest was crown land. The government owned this land and they planted trees on it. We could go swimming at any time of the day whenever we felt like it. There were so many stars at night, thousands of them.
They were pleasant memories and they taught me a lot about life. I learned to respect nature by taking more time to stop and smell the roses. It also taught me to slow life down for a little while when I feel that I am getting too busy. I learned that when I am rushing around I feel that I am shortening my life span, so slowing down helps me to be more aware of how life works.
