The War in Iraq
By Fred Patey

I think that the war that is about to happen can be avoided. I think that the United States is trying to be the biggest player in the world. Yes! I do agree that Saddam Hussein needs to be stopped from producing weapons of mass destruction.

There are a lot of innocent people going to be killed or injured over this. I think Britain and the United States should give Iraq more time to comply with the regulations. The people of Iraq are afraid of him and I am sure they would love to see him out of power.

The United States should take the people of Iraq into account.

I hope that Canada doesn't get involved with our neighbours in the war with Iraq. My daughter is fourteen years old. Everyday she says, "Dad I hope you don't have to go to war. If they go to war do you have to go?" It hurts to hear this, it is not only the Iraqi people who are afraid, many other people are afraid too.

I think the world should try a little harder to bring peace to us starting with Iraq. I pray for peace for us and for the people of Iraq all of the time. In closing, I would like to say to President Bush, give them a little more time, thunder and lighting were not the only things made in heaven, so was peace and love!

The War in Iraq
By Lisa Keats

Some things to think about.

  1. Do you think Canada should be involved in the war with Iraq? Give three reasons for your answer.
  2. Do you think wars are sometimes necessary to find peace?
  3. How do you feel about the people who go to war to find peace?
  4. What kinds of things can we do to avoid war?
