Family Resource Centres - Support to Families Would you like to know more about the needs of children? Would you like to have the opportunity to discuss child rearing with other moms and dads? Would you like more information about how children learn? Would you like some health information concerning your children? If the answer is yes to these questions, family resource centres may be part of the answer. There is a good chance that one is established in your area. There are approximately seventy family resource centres now operating in the province. These centres are intended to be family friendly places. Programs are provided based on the needs and interests of people using the services. They provide a range of programs for parents and families. Their main focus is on families with children from the age of birth to six years. Some centres are interested in extending their services to include children up to twelve years of age. The following are examples of some of the programs you can expect to find. Informal drop-in lay groups where parents and family members are welcome, where children can play together and adults have a chance to talk to one another. Parenting workshops on topics identified by the participants. Child care and transportation are often provided. Prenatal programs, such as Healthy Baby Clubs, that provide individual and group support sessions for pregnant women and family members. Resources such as toys, book lending libraries and clothing exchange programs are also available.
