Poetry Corner

Many people like to express themselves through poetry. Here are two examples of how April likes to express herself. If you would like to write a poem, please send it to us. From time to time we will publish submissions from around the province.

by April Jackman

We sit with the doctor our fingers crossed,
and pray that our hopes and dreams are not lost.
He nods his head with a smile on his face,
we know now our fears are erased.

We are filled with joy, our baby is fine,
she will arrive at just the right time.
We thought it had turned bad and began to woe,
but the baby is healthy from head to toe.

We’ve collected everything the baby will need,
we even have books and pamphlets to read.
Mommy and Daddy will be understanding and good,
like our parents are and all parents should.

It’s time now to go and we’re ready to leave,
I thank God for the baby we just received.
Our little angel sent from above,
from now ‘til forever we’ll shower with love.

Keep on Dreaming
by April Jackman

The two of us walking, hand in hand,
the only thing between us is the sand.
Neither of us speaking, both in thought,
on his mind is the ring he bought.

What’s on my mind is very clear,
as I turn and whisper in his ear.
I drown in your love, we drown in desire,
It’s like a drug higher and higher.

We lie very still, breathing deep,
in his arms I fall asleep.
When I awake he is not around,
then I hear the sweetest sound.

It’s the sound of my love, my very best friend,
the man I will love to the very end.
To my surprise he’s on one knee,
calling out, “Will you marry me?”

I know I’ll say yes, but that’s just a dream,
my eyes are no longer filled with a gleam.
I know in my mind it’s wishful thinking,
but no matter what, I’ll keep on dreaming.
