Interview....................Continued

  1. Can you describe what your work is like at the bank?
    (Mariana Serneniuc)

Banking is a very important part of our everyday lives. If you want to buy a house you ask the bank for a mortgage. If you want to buy a car, you ask about a car loan. If you want to buy a boat, you ask for a boat loan, and if you want to start a business, you ask for a business loan.

In a single day, I work with people who are interested in finding out about business loans, personal loans, mortgages, and making the right investments. Also, as a manger, I help the other workers in the bank if they need advice or assistance.

  2. If someone wants to work as a bank teller, what training do they need? (Doureid Al Dargazli)

If someone wants to work in the bank, they must have a minimum of a university education. When you come to work at the bank, we will train you. You might first work as a bankteller. You would then learn to do other jobs such as financial advisor, a lender who lends money to businesses or assist people with organizing their finances. There are many careers in a bank but first you need a good education.

We have many new Canadians working in the banks.

  3. Education in Canada costs a lot of money. Do banks have education plans, programs to help parents and students? (Martha Lucia Cortes)

Education is very important and I believe we should lobby government to make education free.

At the bank, we can arrange student loans, but students have to pay the money back to the banks. In some countries, education is free. You don't pay tuition fees. I think that is the way it should be in Canada. I would really like education to be free for everyone.

  4. Do you enjoy working with customers from different countries?
    (Pilar Munoz)

If I didn't enjoy working with people from other countries, I wouldn't be working at the bank. In my job, I get to meet many people from allover the world. For example, we have customers from all countries including India, Pakistan, Germany, France, the United States, Japan, and many others.

Canada is a mosaic. This means that people from all over the world live and work here and maintain their cultural beliefs, languages, and heritage. I learn a lot from different cultures.

I think people are the same everywhere. People have the same needs and wants. They want to succeed and they want to raise their families in peaceful environments and have good paying jobs.

  5. When is International Literacy Day?
    (Javier Silva Herrera)

This year, September 8th was International Literacy Day.

  6. Was there something special planned for that day?
    (Lin Wang)

Yes, UNESCO planned special celebrations allover the world recognizing Literacy Day. It is important to set aside a time to give special attention to Literacy. We all need to help illiterate people become more literate. There were celebrations in Ottawa on that day and representatives from each province were there to share their personal learning experiences. A representative was selected from Newfoundland as well.
