Bow Valley College Apprenticeship Reading Program The Apprenticeship Reading Program is offered to skilled or entry-level construction workers who need better reading skills to pass the apprentice entrance exam and continue their studies at SAIT or NAIT. The program’s focus is Grades 6 to 9 reading levels. The program uses a flexible modular format that is primarily designed for independent study supplemented with seminars and some classroom instructions. Workers who must pass the apprenticeship entrance exam; workers taking trades training at NAIT or SAIT who require additional training in reading; supervisory and non-supervisory workers whose first language is not English.
Bow Valley College Construction Craft Labourer Training Program Construction Craft Labourer is a newly designated occupation in Alberta. Workers who are currently doing this work and wish to be certified are now required to pass a certification exam through Alberta Apprenticeship office. At Bow Valley College, construction workers have access to tailor-made training that can prepare them to challenge the certification exam. The program can be taught in a traditional classroom setting, self-taught or delivered through one-on-one tutoring.

Emphasis on a learner-directed model, using adult learning principles. A curriculum more standardized. Different modules and levels, with a certification of completion for each. Options to address emerging priorities and needs in workplace.
Canadian Auto Workers, Local 3005 Aerospace Sector: Basic skills needs assessment The goal of the project was to identify and prioritize the generic workplace literacy skills common across all jobs/occupations within the industry to provide a statistical reference base for future curriculum and course development and to develop recommendations to the industry for program development.
