Program Mission and Goals: To assist adults by developing programming to enhance living and social skills, improve literacy skills and prepare for further training or employment. Program Description: Governed by a Board of Directors, this program was established to fill a need in the region. Relative to other areas of the province, there is a higher proportion of adults who do not have a grade 12 education living in the communities served by Cumberland Regional College. Therefore literacy and adult basic education is seen as a critical need. This program has been in operation for approximately 25 years. Currently there are 55 learners in the literacy component of the program and 125 learners enrolled in the basic education component of the program. Learners attend weekly sessions for approximately 1.5 hours a session. Individual learner needs are established through intake interviews, group information sessions, reading inventories and portfolios. Components of this program includes: |
