Program Description: This is a life skills program that introduces basic English, math and other literacy components. Many of the learners are provided with English as a Second Language (ESL) tutoring in the class. Approximately 90% of the learners in this program are Aboriginal. All students in the program can access other college programs and services. The program includes the following components:

• Basic Literacy
• Family Literacy
• Upgrading

• Job Preparation
• Life Skills

Unique Features of this Program: This program uses culturally relevant literacy materials that it has developed in its program. These materials include stories from Elders that Aboriginal people can relate to.

Program Challenges: One of the greatest challenges faced is being able to keep participants in the program. Many of the participants have challenging family issues to deal with and this creates a challenge or completing their studies.
