Program Mission and Goals: To promote the renewal and development of Metis culture through research, materials development, the collection and distribution of those materials and the design, development, and delivery of Metis-specific educational programs and services. Program Description: Dumont Technical Institute (DT!) is a Métis specific training institution which falls under the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan. Dumont Technical Institute offers training on a province-wide basis and is the only Métis specific educational institution operating in Canada. The Dumont Technical Institute compliments the Gabriel Dumont Institute by offering Basic Education and Skills Training. The Dumont Technical Institute educates approximately 400 students per year, half of whom are in literacy, basic education 5-10, GED or basic education 12 programs, and the other half in skills training programs. Source of Funds: Provincial Government and METSI Unique Features of the Program: A program focussing on the needs of Métis people. The small class size and unique cultural focus enable this program to meet the needs of its students. One-on-one tutoring, counseling and cultural opportunities are available to students. |
