The GED is used as a curriculum guide, though the focus is on meeting individual learner needs. Elders are an important part of the program. Students are motivated to join the program in order to improve the quality of their life and further their education. Some come because they are referred by social workers or family and friends. Special supports to learners include: counseling, dinner program, youth program, street outreach for workers, infants may accompany parents, court worker and substance abuse counseling. Program Challenges: The program has many needs including funding, furniture, materials, books, staff and wages for workers. |
