Program Mission and Goals: To instill reading skills and build self-esteem around literacy. To help build leadership skills.

Program Description: Governed by a board of directors this program is delivered through one-on-one tutoring and small classes. 100% of the learners are First Nations, 15 years old or younger.

As a "special needs literacy program" Buddies With Books, considers itself to be a client -directed program. The learners capabilities are assessed through health personnel and an early childhood consultant employed by Saskatchewan Learning. The program offers the following components: basic literacy, family literacy and life skills. Two-hour sessions are offered on a weekly basis. There is no cost to the participants; transportation, food and resources are supplied.

Source of Funds: Funded by the Associated Entities Fund of the Provincial Government.

Unique Features of the Program: Student participation and enjoyment of this program is enhanced by teacher excellence, encouragement, food and fun.
