Communities Served: North Battleford, Red Pheasant First Nation, Moosomin First Nation, Little Pine First Nation, and Poundmaker First Nation.

Program Mission and Goals:

  • Raising awareness: aim to avoid health problems relating to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome/Fetal Alcohol Effect before they occur.
  • Reaching those at risk: identify those at risk in order to reduce the risk of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome/Fetal Alcohol Effect.
  • Working with those affected: provide support to individuals with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome/Fetal Alcohol Effect to lessen the educational, social and behavioural impact.
  • Creating linkages: creating linkages between related programs and initiatives.

Program Description: Within this project there were 2 groups of participants. The first group was comprised of facilitators and Elders in training. This groups learned group facilitation skills, lesson planning, general knowledge about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome/Fetal Alcohol Effect, the craft of writing a story, cross cultural relations, protocols in dealing with Elders and event planning.
