Program Description: Staff of the La Loche Community School, the Public Library and its Board, and various community agencies work together to make this program a success. The program has been in existence for approximately 2 years and has 600 students from grades K -6 as well as many community residents enrolled. The program is offered both through one-on-one tutoring and small classes. A phonemic awareness program is executed daily in grades K-3. Students reading ability is assessed via diagnostic running records. The program is involved in a number of community activities including selling books at bingos; Literacy Carnivals; "Come Read with Me" parent nights at the library; and a bookstore at the library.
