Family
Literacy Programs include:
- PRINTS
(Parents Interacting with Teacher Support): Over a series of
seven group meetings parents are introduced to the following steps to
literacy:
- Talk and
Oral Language: the importance of talking, listening and responding
to your child.
- Play:
interacting with your child by doing/saying rhymes, jingles and
singing songs.
- Book and Book
Sharing: telling stories and reading books.
- Environmental
Print: exploring symbols or print in the world around us.
- Scribbling,
Drawing and Writing: how children begin to develop writing
skills.
- Come Read
With Me: A series of evening meetings where leaders and parents
come together for the sheer enjoyment of reading. Children's books are
the focus, and each person has the opportunity to learn about good children's
books, and to learn rhymes, finger plays and songs that children love.
At each session participants will be presented with a book that they
can take home and share with their children.
- Parent-Teacher
Supper Meetings:
Six meetings per year around a variety of topics including family literacy.
- Play &
Learn - A Parenting & Literacy Program: This is a 10 week program
for parents who want to strengthen their bond with their pre- school
aged child as well as encourage their child's healthy emotional and
behavioral development. Together, both parent and child learn how to
express their feelings and solve problems.

the pre-school classrooms
The Regina Early Learning
Centre provides a supportive environment for parents and their children.
The staff members are compassionate and resourceful.

of this Program: This program is unique in that it supports parents
to develop the ability to take a proactive and positive role in their
child's education. It supports both parent and child to develop literacy
