Program Mission and Goals: To offer adults and their families free literacy tutoring. To network, to advocate and to promote.

Program Description: A volunteer board of directors of tutors and learners helps to oversee these two programs hosted by READ Saskatoon. The Adult One-to-One Program has been in existence for 24 years and the Grassroots Resource and Learning Centre, which is delivered through small classes, has been in existence for 4 years. Currently there are 70 adults in the One-to-One Program and 30 in Grass.

Learner capabilities and goals are determined through informal assessment, IRI's, writing samples and intake interviews. The Adult One-to-One program incorporates the following components:

  • Basic literacy (level 1)
  • Intermediate literacy
  • Family literacy

In addition to the programs listed above the Grassroots program also includes:

  • Computer training
  • Life Skills
  • Job Preparation
