The Adult One-to-One Program is offered once a week with each session lasting from 1-2 hours. The Grassroots program is offered 4 days per week, 6 hours a day. Approximately 98% of the learners are of Aboriginal ancestry. The program is learner centered and focuses on an individualized approach drawing from the principles of whole language. The Grassroots Resource and Learning Centre incorporates Aboriginal advisors, speakers and staff. Individuals enroll in this program in order to obtain their GED, for work related reasons, for self improvement, and because they wish to help their children. Learners are supported through contact with their instructors, the coordinator, events and newsletters. Source of Funds: 60% of the funding for this program comes from the provincial government (Saskatchewan Learning and Saskatchewan Social Services), and another 35% from the federal government (National Literacy Secretariat). 3% of the funding comes from foundations and 2% comes from donations. |
