In the past there has been little need for science education for
the under-educated population. The emphasis was on reading and writing. The
increasing demand for technical know ledge in many occupational sectors means
that basic science training must be seen as an important component of basic
literacy.
6.2.4. Employment
Status and Salary
In the sample, 53 percent of ABE instructors were employed
full-time. Of those who work full-time, 49 percent earn between $31,000 and
140,000 per year (see Tables 6-6 and 6-7).
