Life Literacy Radio – Episode 1: Interview with Dr. Rick Miner, Colleges Ontario; Joy Fielding author, Good Reads; and ABC Life Literacy Canada president Margaret Eaton [Audio 20:07]

This is the debut episode of Life Literacy Radio, an audio podcast launched by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 2010.

The episode begins with an interview with Margaret Eaton, the president of ABC Life Literacy Canada, discussing the importance of financial literacy and lifelong learning.

Dr. Rick Miner, who works with Colleges Ontario to explore system-wide solutions to adult education and literacy challenges, is also interviewed for this episode. He discusses his research report “People without jobs, jobs without people,” which looks at the reason why so many people cannot find work while, at the same time, some jobs go unfilled because of the lack of qualified candidates.

The podcast also features an interview with bestselling novelist Joy Fielding, who is part of a project called Good Reads. Led by ABC Life Literacy Canada and funded by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC), Good Reads addresses the shortage of entertaining books for adult emergent readers. Good Reads has worked with Edmonton-based Grass Roots Press to publish 19 short, easy-reading books by well-known Canadian authors.
