Victor Stoodley: Where did you go to school?

Minister: I graduated from John Burke High School in Grand Bank. I attended Memorial University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education. I also studied at Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario, and graduated with a honours diploma in Broadcast Arts.

Wandalee Hillier: Where did you get the nerve to do this?

Minister: I am not sure it took a lot of nerve because I had worked for eight years in the Premier's Office so I knew what was involved. Having said that, it is one thing to observe someone doing a certain job but a different thing when you are the one who has to do it. Being a Minister carries a lot of responsibility, but it is also very rewarding because you get an opportunity to make decisions that influence what happens in our province.

Marilyn Murray: Do you have children?

Minister: My husband and I have three wonderful children. Carla is 27 years old, Jason is 25, and Heidi is 23.

Wandalee Hillier: Do you enjoy your job?

Minister: I enjoy my job very much. In fact, I have two jobs which I enjoy. To become a politician you have to get elected and I got elected to represent the people in the District of Grand Bank. I am a member in the House of Assembly. When they have concerns which they think I may be able to do something about, they call my office. I really enjoy being able to help them because sometimes they don't where to go for help.

My other job, as you know, is Minister of Education. This has to be the best job in the world because I get a chance to work with so many great people who want to do everything they can to make sure we have the best education system in the country. I believe that we do. Everyone wants to get a good education because we all know how important is. There are some people who, through no fault of their own, weren't able to finish school. It is important we do everything we can to give them the chance to continue with their education. One thing we all need to remember is that education is about lifelong learning. As Minister of Education, I have the privilege of helping to improve the literacy skills in our province. For me this is truly rewarding.
