Students from the literacy centre located in Grand Falls-Windsor share their stories about their participation at last year's learners' conference held in Marystown. While all of the stories relate similar experiences, they show very clearly how a learning experience can be fun. We hope these stories will give you some idea of what to expect at these conferences. More importantly, we hope they give you the encouragement to attend. Our Trip To Marystown This was my first trip to Marystown. Olive picked me up Thursday morning around 10:45. We got there around five to four, I'd say. I saw Lillian when we got there. We had to sign up for our room. Wanda, Doreen and I went to Mary Brown's to eat. After supper we attended a Wine and Cheese. Friday morning at 9:00 we had our meeting. That went until 12:00 and then we had another meeting at 1:00. That night we had a delicious supper and watched a play. After the play we practiced our line dancing. We were going to do our costumes that night but decided to wait. Saturday morning we had our meeting at 9:00. We had a little short break and then another meeting. We had a little free time to go to the mall and we had to be back at 3:00 for a tree planting ceremony. Then we went back and got ready for our banquet that night. After our banquet we went to the dance. We were up late that night. Sunday morning we got away around 10:30. We had our meal and got back on the road again. We got home about 3:00. It was a really good weekend and I didn't want to come back.
Our Conference Trip We went to Marystown last Thursday morning. That afternoon we went to the mall. After we left the mall we went to Mary Brown's for supper. Next morning we had breakfast and we went to a meeting with Olive and Kim. We had a break at 10:00 and then went back to the meeting. Then we had dinner at the hotel. After dinner we went to the Tree meeting with Ed Oldford and Dorothy Silver. Then we had a break at 2:00 before our next meeting. Then I went out with my brother and his girlfriend. That night we went dancing downstairs in the hotel. Next morning we had the round table. We had the afternoon to get ready for supper. That night we went to the Halloween dance and our friends got dressed up in their costumes. Next morning we came back home. We went out to dinner with Olive and Orv. We had a good time that weekend. Conference in Marystown We left Grand Falls-Windsor on Thursday, Oct. 25 to go to Marystown for a three day conference. When we arrived in Marystown we had to wait on Lillian to sign in for the room. We went upstairs and put our bags our room and then went out with Orv and Olive to the mall. After that we went supper, came back to the hotel, and then Joseph and I went to the bar called the Little Dory. We got back to our room 2:30 in the morning. Our first workshop was at 9:00 with Olive. It lasted about three hours. Afterwards we went to lunch. We went to the second workshop and then I went to supper. Ed and Dorothy hosted the Tree workshop. This took place on Friday, October 26. On Saturday, we went to the AGM and then we had a round table meeting. After lunch I had the afternoon to myself. At 3:00 we went to the town hall and watched the tree planting. At 7:00 we had the banquet and then we watched a play. Kenneth won an award for Laubach Literacy. After the banquet we went downstairs to the Halloween dance and we saw people dressed up in costumes, judging was made for the best costumes. After the dance, I went back to my room and went to sleep. The next morning we left about 10:00 to go home. We had a great time. |
