Students from the Rabbittown
Learners' program interview the newly appointed Director of the Literacy
Development Council of Newfoundland and Labrador
On December 14, 2000, Della Coish visited the Rabbittown
Learners' Program. Terry Mercer and Barry Sullivan conducted an interview with
Della. They were interested in learning more about the Literacy Development
Council and Della's role with the Council. |
The following questions were prepared by
Terry and Barry and answered by Della.
| Barry: |
What is your name? |
|
Della: |
My name is Della Coish |
| |
|
| Barry: |
Where are you from? |
|
Della: |
I am from Stag Harbour, a small community on Fogo Island.
|
| |
|
| Barry: |
Where do you work? What is your title? |
|
Della: |
I work with the Literacy Development Council of
Newfoundland and Labrador. |
| |
|
| Barry: |
What kind of work do you do? |
|
Della: |
As Director of the Literacy Development Council of
Newfoundland and Labrador, my role is to assist Council in working with
literacy groups and organizations in the province. The Council has a
responsibility in addressing literacy needs, whatever they might be. For
example, one of my largest roles is to help Council increase public awareness
of literacy issues. We want to let people know what is available all over the
province. We also want to help the general public understand what the Council
does as a literacy organization. |

|
| Barry: |
How long have you worked in this job? |
|
Della: |
Actually, I am really new in this position. I started
working with the Literacy Development Council in November of 2000. |
| |
|
| Rerry: |
How long has the Literacy Development Council been in
operation? |
|
Della: |
The Literacy Development Council office in St. John's
first opened in 1994. At one time we also had an outreach office in Grand
Falls-Windsor, but now we have only one location in St. John's at 29 Hallett
Crescent. |
