Literacy Awareness in Ontario
Many social service agencies and employers as well as the general public do not have a good understanding of literacy services in Ontario. The OLC continues to receive calls from Boards of Education, social service providers, youth workers, people with literacy challenges and people who suspect that someone they know could use literacy services. They are unaware of what services are available and how to access them. This has proven to the OLC that there is an information gap between the services that are provided in Ontario and the general public, including public education institutions and social services agencies’ understanding of these services.
The overall goal of this project is to improve access to information about literacy issues and services in Ontario.
When attempting to raise Literacy Awareness in Ontario, you must choose your tools strategically. In order to help you, and your programs, strategically plan a Public Awareness campaign, the OLC has developed an Online Public Awareness Action Guide.
The Online Public Awareness Action Guide outlines a process for developing a Public Relations Strategy. This process can be used with the general public, intermediaries (public education institutions, employers, immigrant service centres, correctional facilities, etc.) or any social service provider with ties to literacy.
Other tools you, and your programs, can use to increase Literacy Awareness in Ontario:
All of these tools are meant to be downloaded and modified (information added or subtracted) for use in your own organization’s Public Awareness Strategy.
