Facts about your campaign

Give details:
Start with information about what you plan to do, where and when you plan to do it, and who will be involved. Give people a sense of purpose of the campaign by including background such as:

Why

Over 20% of adults in Ontario do not have basic literacy skills. A further 24% are not able to read well enough to carry out daily tasks or find and keep jobs. Literacy skills give people more choices about their lives, and more control over those choices. They help people find information, set goals, work with others, solve problems, and make decisions.

People with literacy skills are more likely to lead healthier lives, earn more money and help their children be the best they can be. The whole Province stands to benefit.

Every year, Ontario’s Literacy and Basic Skills programs help more than 68,000 adults. This is only a small portion of those who can benefit from help.

Why should my organization get involved?

Whether your organization is a business or a service organization, big or small, you can be a part of this campaign. For example, you can use this campaign to:

  • Show that you are a caring member of the community

  • Display posters, distribute information about literacy during the campaign week, and collect bookmarks.
  • Host a presentation about literacy for your members or clients.
  • Issue a campaign challenge to your own clients or members.
  • Offer a prize for the bookmark winners.
