Key Statistics

Almost 50% of Canadian adults struggle with words and numbers:

  • 22% of Canadians have serious difficulties with any type of printed material.
  • A further 26% of Canadians can do only the simplest reading and writing tasks.
  • In Ontario, over 20% of adults do not have basic literacy skills.
  • An additional 24% of adults in Ontario are not able to read well enough to carry out daily tasks or to find and keep jobs.
