Part 2:  Taking Action

Mobilizing People

The OLC’s members have demonstrated enthusiasm and creativity in taking up the challenge of adapting the OLC’s social marketing campaigns to the needs of local communities. Adult learners and community partners contribute significantly to efforts to foster a sense of possibility and personal empowerment in a campaign that moves people from awareness to action on literacy. This section includes information and ideas on managing the human resources that are the key to a successful public awareness campaign.

Launching Activities

This section describes the activities and supports that are at the heart of a public awareness campaign and are essential to its success. The Challenge, the Launch, the Community Events, and various promotional supports all help to make the campaign inclusive and to raise its profile. Activities and promotional tools are designed to be flexible so that each community can use them according to their priorities and to the extent of their resources.

Engaging the Media

The media are important partners in any public awareness campaign. This section includes a detailed Media Relations Guide and several Media Relations Templates for your use in promoting public awareness campaigns with the media.
